Because each memorial is created by family members or loved ones, the information reflects the stories and experiences that families choose to share. To improve the quality and reliability of the information, families may identify the source of the reported cause of death during the memorial creation process. This information is used only to support anonymous, aggregated statistics and is not displayed on individual memorials.
Users can explore anonymous community data by:
Country
State or Province
City
Time period
Cause of death
Scale of Our Loss (number of memorials entered)
Whether criminal prosecution occurred in cases involving illegally supplied drugs, when known
Families may indicate whether the reported cause of death is confirmed or suspected. This information is used only to improve the accuracy of anonymous community statistics and is not displayed on individual memorials.
As the Whispers of Names community grows, these anonymous, aggregated statistics may help families, educators, researchers, prevention organizations, healthcare professionals, and communities better understand trends, identify areas of need, support education, and strengthen prevention efforts.
